240 lbs....

Many people have asked...what could we possibly have brought home that weighed that much?!

Well, originally we had ship back the missing pieces of our home. The stuff that we "should" have brought but didn't. After the sea freight bill came in at $2400, we decided that we would pack what we could in suitcases and then leave the rest behind.

So, from our "home collection" came:
-Mexican painted plate and jug
-A couple of cookbooks and a wine book
-Two glass vases (sadly, both broke in transit)
-Two Calgary flames jerseys
-A large humidor
-A large jewellery box
-A teapot (broke), cream and sugar dish
-Cute little serving utensils
-3 white vases
-A candle holder set
-Pie plate (broke)
-Bowl (painted by my very own sis)
-Pictures & frames
-Prints (to be framed)

Then came the shopping. Now, they have lots of lovely brands and shops in Qatar, they really do. But I find them a bit expensive. Those who know me, know that I am a "middle style" shopper. More Old Navy, than the Gap. However, I do have one obsession. Banana Republic. I love their clothes for work. Love, love, love them.

Here in Doha, it is very expensive. I mean, I say that, but it is in the same mall as the Dior shop. You know, just past Cartier and Harry Winston, around the corner from Louis Vitton. So probably for most people in Qatar (you know who you are), it isn't that expensive. But for a "thrify gal" like me, it is.

BUT, in Crossiron Mills there is a Banana Republic outlet. Where I went crazy. Casey too. Add in to that Joe Fresh, the Nine West outlet, Jacob, the Shoe Company, La Vie En Rose Aqua and the Shoe Company....oh my goodness. Our credit card hurt.

I have work pants, shoes, flip flops, blouses, wraps (the kind you put over sleeveless tops...comes in handy here!), swimsuits and (not from the outlet mall), two new pairs of lululemons. That's just me.

Then there was new sunglasses (each), MAC makeup (cheaper + better selection in Canada), Sephora (Philosphy!), Bath & Bodyworks (gorgeous shampoo/conditioner, hand sanitizers, lotions and lipgloss).

Then there were the books - health books, cooksbooks (Quinoa 365), magazines (Rachel Ray!) and the "knicknacks"...cute memo pads, magnets, a birthday book, an agenda, salt & pepper grinders (nice ones, for a fraction of the price here!), proper chilli powder (not the wacky stuff they have here), pens and post-it flags (if you work with contracts, you need flags. Trust me).

Finally, gluten free food. Lasagna noodles, yummy rice crackers (three kinds), pancake mix, pizza crust mix, Ktoos (gf oreos...delicious!), and quinoa.

It was glorious. And excessive. I get that. But it was the first time and our home is considerably farther away than the 7 ish hour jaunt of our British & French friends. So allow us this indulgence, will you?! It will only happen once. My credit card said so.
