Fur Ball 2012

Last Thursday we attended the "Fur Ball" which is a charity dinner/dance for the Qatar Animal Welfare Society. We went with Big C's friends from DSAC (the dive club) and it was a very nice night. We all dressed up, had a bit of wine and there were two of my favorite things - a silent auction and a raffle!


I abstained from the silent auction (shocking I know! Might have had something to do with our Visa being stolen...) but I happily participated in the raffle (didn't win though) and made a charitable donation to win the cuddly "Beauregard the Bear" (I named him).


QAWS is a great society here in Qatar that acts as an animal shelter and rescue society. They are a charity and so the proceeds from the ball help with the running costs of the shelter - which are very high and funded solely by donations. They also showed pictures of some of the cats and dogs currently available for adoption, as well as some of the photos of the abused, abandoned and neglected animals they rescue. It was heartbreaking and it really made us think about adopting a rescue dog...one day.
