Christmas Comes to the Desert too...

We didn't think that Christmas would really come here...being a Muslim country and all. We thought there would be a moderate Christmas display in the more "Westernized" areas but no, Christmas has come - in full tacky glory!

Carrefour, Home Center and Homes R Us have trees, lights, decorations, garlands and well...everything that is red or green (mixing bowls, garbage cans, fake tropical flowers) are also part of the Christmas display. It's quite entertaining.

We did learn one thing - Christmas stuff (especially the good stuff) goes FAST. I mean, there must be some kind of secret call out list for when Christmas stuff arrives in Doha. One day there are two aisles at Carrefour and two days later there is only one. We managed to snag some of the nice and some of the not-so-nice. It was definitely an elbows out, headfirst, tinsel flying manic experience. Luckily I am short and can crawl in between the ankles.

We have a tree, decorations, a wreath, blinking colored lights, snowman decorations and even a pointsetta (thanks Frances!).

Pictures to come soon....

PS. We have added Christmas decorations to the list of "Stuff We Wish Had Brought from Home But Didn't". Yeah. Camping gear, skates, hockey equipment and now, Christmas decorations. Darn it all.

  2. Good to see you're making the most of it. There are decorations to be found, but like you say they do go fast. Well done for snagging some items!

Christmas can be wonderful here as you can enjoy the weather, perhaps spend more time together as a family and there's always lots to see and do that's Christmassy in the hotels. Hope you enjoy your first Christmas in Doha.... it will be our 11th one here!
